Strategic Planning & Regeneration Graduate -Strategic Planning

2 year fixed-term contract/secondment with potential to extend

Ref: H7126

£22,564 - £25,636 per annum (Inclusive of London Fringe Weighting)

Dacorum is an attractive Hertfordshire borough comprising Hemel Hempstead new town, the market towns of Berkhamsted and Tring and a range of smaller historic villages. Lying only 25 miles from central London, the borough experiences significant pressures and must balance that against the need to protect the quality of its environment, including the Chilterns AONB.

It is also an exciting time for Dacorum Borough Council, as it takes forward preparation of the Dacorum Local Plan and the challenge of planning sustainably for increased levels of growth while safeguarding the special characteristics of its area. To help with this work, an exciting ‘entry level’ opportunity has been created for an innovative individual interested in developing their career in town planning to join the Strategic Planning and Regeneration Team. The role will offer a great opportunity for someone early in their career to gain a detailed understanding of the Plan preparation process, whilst working within a supportive environment where they are helped to develop.

To ensure its plans continue to come to fruition, the Council has invested heavily to deliver a range of ambitious and exciting regeneration projects within Hemel Hempstead Town Centre including
The Forum, the Water Gardens and enhancement of the shopping area. This investment will continue in future as the Council seeks to deliver its vision and optimise the opportunities provided by the growth being planned.

You will enjoy partnership working, be able to work as part of a team and feel confident in being responsible for completing projects, whilst working collaboratively with others. You will also have an interest and perhaps some experience already, in working in planning policy, regeneration or a planning related field.

You will also be flexible, adaptable, forward thinking, solution focused and able to understand your individual contribution to the bigger picture. With a “can do” attitude, an aptitude for negotiation and problem solving, and a developed initiative, you will also be skilled at balancing a number of competing priorities.

You will help ensure we deliver high quality development that meets the needs of this varied Borough.

We offer a flexible working environment and you support (with funding) to undertake relevant further training and qualification. Local government is rapidly evolving and we would like our new colleague to grow with us and embrace this positive challenge.

About us

Dacorum is changing the way that it works by finding more cost effective ways of operating.
