Homeless Prevention & Assessment Officer £30,006 - £31,750 (Inclusive of London Fringe Weighting) plus Car User Allowance & Standby Duty

You will be responsible for providing clients and organisations with detailed advice on a wide range of housing law and issues. You will have a strong emphasis on preventative advice and as such, will have excellent casework and negotiation skills.

You will provide legal advocacy service to clients in such financial difficulty that could result in homelessness, which includes mortgage repossessions and liaison with mortgage lenders and the County Court.    You will provide housing advice and options via a Personal Housing Plan to clients threatened with homelessness, to enable appropriate decisions to be made on the best way forward in relation to their circumstances, including assessment and consideration for assistance from the Council’s Homeless prevention fund. 

You will be working with a variety of households and client groups, some of whom may be vulnerable and with complex needs, you will therefore have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage difficult situations. You’ll liaise with relevant agencies to ensure that applicants are able to make informed decisions on their choice for housing.   

The ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with organisations (both statutory and voluntary) is required as well as tact, diplomacy and the ability to negotiate with customers, stakeholders and other interested parties to reach sound decisions. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to achieve defined performance targets.  

Applicants must have a full valid driving licence and access to a car as you will be required to undertake visits to both clients and agencies in this role.  

A check will be undertaken with the Disclosure and Barring Service to ensure that the successful candidate has no relevant convictions for the above post.

Candidates can express preference for a permanent, or fixed term contract, at interview stage.
